What are Fiestas Patrias?

Chile's national holidays, known as “el Dieciocho,” commemorate the First Government Junta of September 18, 1810. September 19 celebrates the Day of the Glories of the Army. These are the most important days of the year for celebrating Chilean culture and identity.

How Chileans celebrate in the United States

Far from Chile, the community keeps the tradition alive with fondas and festivals: asados, empanadas, terremotos, traditional games, kite-flying, and of course plenty of cueca, the national dance. Every September, Chilean festivals pop up in cities across the country.

Where it's celebrated

Chilean celebrations take place in communities all over the United States, including California, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington D.C., Illinois, Massachusetts and more.
